Annual Dinners
The AFB was delighted to host its second Annual Dinner on 1 July, at Drapers Hall in the City of London. The principal guest was Philip Collins chairman of the OFT, while the event also heard speeches from AFB’s Chairman, the Rt Hon John Gummer MP and AFB’s Director, Robert Sinclair. The event was kindly sponsored by the GE Money, Swift Group; Blemain Finance; Freedom Finance; and solicitors, Walker Morris.
In his keynote speech to the Annual Dinner, OFT Chairman Philip Collins outlined the OFT’s approach to achieving better outcomes for consumers, businesses and markets. Mr Collins emphasized the shared interest held by the OFT and the AFB in ensuring that consumers can drive market development. Mr Collins also indicated the importance to the AFB of consumers while stressing the importance of the AFB in providing market knowledge to the OFT.
AFB Chairman, John Gummer MP, said now was the time for the industry to work together. He said it was a very difficult moment for regulation to be expanded or changed, and that it is important there is a clear understanding for the industry when making the change. He also warned the Competition Commission should be mindful of imposing new rules after the need has passed.
